Pompeii Sites is the official app developed by D'uva to visit the Pompeii Archaeological site

We have expanded the technology on offer that allows visitors to get to know, in an unusual and interactive way, the best-preserved city of the ancient world: Pompeii.

An area of 164 acres (66 hectares), of which 109 (44 h) have been brought to light, is there for you to discover through a commentary divided into10 itineraries, each of which can be downloaded separately on AppStore, Google Play and Windows Store. A unique window to the past, now at hand in your smartphone.

Objects, paintings, inscriptions, documents and even people, who have been restored to us thanks to the protective cast around their bodies, created by the boiling lava at the exact time of their ill-fated flight during the eruption.

The app narrates all of this, through more than three hours of audio commentary in different voices, images, videos, illustrations and 3D reconstructions, that ten generations of archaeologists have formulated in almost three centuries of research.

A geo localized map allows visitors to find their position and so orient themselves inside the excavations, to directly access their favourite listening points or even to build their own personalised itinerary through the 'preferred' function.

The app contains a specially designed itinerary to get the best out of the augmented reality function: by pointing the smart phone camera directly at the point of interest, the visitor can identify the place inside the site, thanks to the GPS, and automatically access drawings, images and 3D reconstructions, for a direct confrontation between "as it was/how it is", (involving the visitor in an educational-immersive itinerary).

The 'Phototaking' function enables the visitor to take a snap directly within the app and share them on the social media.

Visiting Pompeii with children? The app lets you download three games together with each itinerary, (puzzles, memory games and colouring) designed for younger visitors to enable them to play with art and interact with the wonders of Pompeii, through new eyes.

The app carried out by D’Uva, partner of Arte’m net, is at the moment available for iPhone and Android, in Beta version. The official application of the Soprintendenza Speciale for Pompei, Ercolano and Stabia will be available for all visitors in a complete version, also for Windows Phone from the end of October.

The new version will also contain an itinerary specially designed and planned to take advantage of the potential of Augmented Reality: The app contains a specially designed itinerary to get the best out of the augmented reality function: by pointing the smart phone camera directly at the point of interest, the visitor can identify the places inside the site, thanks to the GPS, and automatically access drawings, images and 3D reconstructions.

Furthermore, thanks to the “Pompeii Advisor”, function, all visitors can send suggestions, ideas, or requests directly to the Superintendence, with a photo, a geo location point on the map and a brief, optional text. A direct, simple and immediate two-way communication channel!

The multimedia guide is part of the cultural services provided by the consortium arte'm net, who won the tender “Miglioramento delle modalità di visita e potenziamento dell’offerta culturale del sito archeologico di Pompei”, with Altair4, arte'm/prismi, Centrica, D'Uva, L'Erma di Bretschneider e Syremont.
